FYO Baseball is comprised of six divisions - organized by grade - each specifically tailored to players of average or above average playing ability. Each division, with the exception of Rookies, will play a 10 game minimum season (weather permitting). The divisions are as follows:
Rookies (Pre-K)
Introduced in the Spring of 2010, this five-week program is designed to introduce the very basic fundamentals of the game (hitting, throwing, and fielding) required to play baseball. Beginning in mid-April, the players meet every Sunday afternoon for an hour. Adult coaches provide general instruction through practice stations. There are no formal teams and players hit off a batting tee only. Practice will transition to informal games toward the end of the program. Rookies must be at least 4 years old by June 1.
T-Ball (K)
The objective of this division is to teach the fundamentals of hitting, throwing, and fielding. All batters will hit from a batting tee, which is adjusted to a height that allows the batter to swing level. During the season, coaches will pitch to players who demonstrate the ability to successfully hit a pitched ball. If a player is unable to hit coach pitching, he or she will be permitted to hit off a batting tee. Teams practice and play one game per week. Three inning games are held on Saturday afternoon to minimize conflicts with soccer, and practice is typically held on a weeknight. All rostered players present for the game bat in order and play the field. Adult coaches are stationed in the field to provide instruction during the games. No score is kept and outs are not recorded.
Minors AA (Grades 1 and 2)
This is a coach pitch division designed to build on the fundaments of hitting, throwing, and fielding. Teams play six inning games on Saturday afternoon to minimize conflicts with soccer and practice weekly. All rostered players present for the game will bat in order. A maximum of 10 players play the field at any given time. Each player will play a minimum of 4 innings in the field. A manager or coach will be stationed on the field during games. Score is kept and outs are recorded. No stealing or bunting is permitted. Strikeouts are recorded. There are no playoffs; however, an All-Star game will be played. Field size is 40/60 (pitching distance/baseline distance).
Minors AAA (Grades 3 and 4)
The objective of this division is to build upon basic fundamentals and introduce a more competitive element to the game. Players will do all the pitching with strict limitations on pitch counts. Teams play weekly six inning games and practice once or twice per week. All rostered players present for the game will bat in order. A maximum of 10 players play the field at any given time. Each player will play a minimum of 4 innings in the field. A manager or coach is permitted on the field during games. Score is kept and outs are recorded. Modified stealing and bunting are permitted. All teams will compete in the playoffs and an All-Star game will be played. Players are selected to the ASG by their manager and coaches. Field size is 46/60.
Majors (Grades 5 and 6)
Identical to Minors AAA; however, only 9 players play the field at any given time. Managers and coaches are not permitted on the field during games. Field size is 50/70.
Seniors (Grades 7, 8 and 9)
Identical to Majors; however, full stealing is permitted. Field size is 60/90.
